At first listen, I did not think this album was gelling, but as I got deeper, the melancholy mystery really unveiled! If much trad/heavy metal is a tale of fist-pumping might and searing glory, this is one in which the warrior is exhausted, wounded and weary, slumped over his horse as it clomps through the misty woods. This feels best exemplified by many of the choruses, which took me by surprise by pulling back rather than valiantly charging out, seeming to slink downward into blue shadows.

A churning, smoky, and doomed affair. Gone is much of the adventurous, sword-and-sorcery battle hymn of Forever Black and earlier; this is a trudging march of grim and dark resolve. A well-chosen album name. This was a different direction than I expected, so I will have to screw my head on right to give it a re-listen, but I think it will please even more. Many of the melodies take shadowy turns of half-tone tension, evoking the dire fate hanging overhead as mighty heavy lyrics damn you.
